Many foreigners have been called in the last couple of months by telephone fraudsters who pretend to be employees from the IND. They heard that there were problems with their residence permit and if would have to leave the Netherlands if they didn’t pay. Some only heard that they had to leave the country. The fraudsters have detailed information about the person they are calling, including the passport number.  The IND does not know how the fraudsters got the information about the people they called.

The IND  did not say if anyone has paid money to the fraudsters,  but has opened a helpline for people who think they have fallen victim to the trick: (08804) 30470.
