ACCESS Amsterdam Launches Creative Contest
The Creative Contest for the students of the international schools of Amsterdam area was launched in February 2008. This is the first time that the Amsterdam office of ACCESS has organised such an event. Last year The Hague office of ACCESS took over from the International Women's Contact in organising a similar event, and its success encouraged ACCESS Amsterdam to try and organise an art competition for the schools of Amsterdam and the nearby areas.
The goal of the contest is to raise the profile of art within the international schools and to allow all students the opportunity to publicly display their creations. The students were asked to creatively express and expand on this year's theme of "My Green City".
According to the rules, it is possible to produce flat entries - drawings, paintings, mixed media, collages, computer graphics or 3-D objects - sculptures, papier-mache, mosaic, etc. All participants will be divided into 5 age groups – from 5 to 15 years and older.
5 schools are taking part: The British School of Amsterdam, The International School of Amsterdam, The Amsterdam International Community School, The European School in Bergen and The International Primary School Letterland Almere.
The first selection of the artworks will be made by the school teachers, and then the ACCESS panel of judges will choose the winners.
We are fortunate to have the support of the Amsterdam Topstad Programme in organising the Creative Contest, especially the award ceremony and the exhibition of the winners' artworks.
The American Book Center has kindly agreed to sponsor the prizes for the winners.
