Childbirth Preparation Course
title line

This popular course is geared towards couples in the last trimester of pregnancy

This course is presented by Truus Gale who has been a midwife in the Hoofddorp and surrounding areas for 20 years and has been advising couples on how best to prepare for childbirth. Since the beginning of 2005, Truus Gale has been the prenatal trainer for the ACCESS Childbirth Preparation Course.

The course is in English and is held at the British School of Amsterdam on one evening a week for five weeks, from 19:00 to 21:00. Additionally there is one postnatal reunion on a Saturday afternoon.
Each session runs for 2 hours and some of the topics covered include:

How the health system works around childbirth in The Netherlands
Relaxation, breathing and massage exercises in the first stage of labour
Dilation, what happens in your body
       Attitude towards contractions and pain
How to relax when in labour
Breathing in the different stages of labour
Pain relief, what are the possibilities
Exercises such as pushing in different positions
       Third stage
Instrumental assisted delivery (vacuum extraction, caesarean section)
       Breastfeeding information (limited)
       First week of motherhood
       Dutch habits and customs

An additional benefit of attending the course is a wonderful opportunity to meet other couples in the same stage of life and continue meeting them after the babies have been born.

For those who cannot attend the weekly course, Truus holds private sessions lasting around 2½ hours. Time and place to be arranged.

Due to popular demand, an EXTRA course for Summer 2010 has been added!
The course will be conducted as always by Truus Gale with 5 two-hour sessions.
