"At Home Abroad" – Dutch for Starters
title line

Do you want to learn Dutch in a small setting with a personal touch?
Then "At Home Abroad" could be just the thing for you!

ACCESS is offering Dutch courses for beginners as we believe that knowing some Dutch will help you feel at home in The Netherlands and open doors to the Dutch culture.

Your course leader has thirty years of language teaching experience and knows that students benefit from learning a new language in a relaxed and sociable environment. When people are relaxed, learning and having a good time can go hand in hand.

At the end of a beginners course you will be able to have short conversations on everyday subjects like shopping, food, travelling, going out, and to ask for directions, give your opinion, and make appointments. Simple writing-assignments are also part of the programme.

There is a choice of two courses:

Day course:
Treat yourself to a luxury Dutch language class, where serious learning is combined with exchanging ideas on how to make the most of your time in The Hague.

The course consists of ten sessions of three and a half hours.
Two hours of each session will be spent on language learning and will be in Dutch only.
During the rest of the session, participants can share their experience of living in a new country and bring up any subject they like. Feel free to do so in English, although you might be surprised how soon some Dutch creeps in!

An organic lunch will be served.

Evening course:
This course consists of ten sessions of one hour and a half, for those who prefer a faster and streamlined course. The language component is the same as for the day course.

About both courses:
In groups of four to six people the main focus will be on conversation, to learn more than just survive in everyday situations.

In order to prepare for the conversation exercises, you will be asked to work on the lessons at home with the help of the CD-ROM that goes with the coursebook.
In general, this will take about three hours per lesson.

Alternative dates and arrangements are available on demand. This is also possible for people who want to register as a group. Please email for more information.
